Commerce Street
Historic Renovation | San Antonio, Texas | 40,000 sf
BACKGROUND:
The historic Commerce Building in downtown San Antonio, built in 1902, originally served as the first dedicated home of the Alamo National Bank. In response to the city’s growing transportation needs, the building underwent a remarkable engineering feat in 1915 when it was moved 16 feet, 7 inches south using a jack-and-roll system to accommodate the widening of Commerce Street.
Today, this iconic structure stands as a blend of rich history and modern innovation. CREO played a key role in revitalizing the space by redesigning and restoring the main lobby while preserving its historic charm. Additionally, CREO provided tenant improvements for a cutting-edge tech company on the 8th floor, ensuring the space met contemporary business needs. To further enhance the tenant experience, CREO also custom-fabricated desks and a striking main conference table, seamlessly integrating functionality with the building’s timeless character.
With its storied past and thoughtfully designed updates, the Commerce Building remains a testament to San Antonio’s architectural resilience and commitment to preserving its historic landmarks while embracing the future.
