Stout's Trattoria at Tobin

New Construction | San Antonio, Texas | 4,100 sf

BACKGROUND:

This project involves the design of a unique bar located near the Tobin Center in San Antonio, providing the perfect space for pre- or post-performance drinks in an elegant, yet approachable setting. The design focuses on creating an inviting atmosphere that complements the vibrant arts district, offering guests a stylish yet relaxed venue to enjoy craft cocktails and socialize.

A standout feature of the bar is the innovative ceiling design, crafted from plywood modules that serve multiple functions. Not only do the modules provide a visually striking centerpiece, but they also cleverly incorporate HVAC and lighting systems, creating a cost-effective yet sophisticated solution. The use of plywood lends warmth and texture to the space, while the modular design allows for flexibility and ease of installation, making it both practical and aesthetically pleasing.

The bar also features distinctive gabion walls filled with polished river stone, creating a visually dynamic contrast with the smooth, clean lines of the interior. The natural stone adds a tactile and organic element to the space, providing a unique texture and grounding the design in the local landscape.

The bar’s craft cocktail program highlights innovation, with expertly curated drinks that celebrate creativity and flavor. From classic concoctions to new, daring mixes, the cocktail menu is designed to appeal to both connoisseurs and casual drinkers alike. Whether you're visiting for a quick drink before a performance or unwinding after the show, this bar offers a memorable experience in a dynamic, thoughtfully designed space.
